In 1974 the AIGE established the International Symbols Standard - a directional pictogram standard, in worldwide use today. So that's nearly half a century ago.
Symbols are only effective when familiar and so they need to be updated when things change. It's not just technology that has changed! We have changed! We have different body shapes. Obesity is the new norm. And women and men dress more like each-other nowadays. For this reason we are updating the 40+ year old graphics.
